Hi Everyone,
Thanks for attending my workshop: “What is Facilitation and How is it Different From Presenting?”
I use to think that when I gave presentations, lead meetings, and taught courses and workshops that the only way to do it was to talk, meaning, I’m the only one who gets to talk and everyone else in the room is suppose to just sit there and listen. That’s what I was use to in school, college, in the workplace, and at conventions. Every now and then I would have fantastic experience as a student or audience member when the event leader had us, the students…the audience participate heavily in the workshop. I found that I enjoyed myself and learned a lot more. I began re-writing all my material to encourage audience participation and never looked back. Yes, sometimes some content require a mini lecture but for the most part, adult learners really do enjoy getting involved with their learning.
Not everyone learns by just sitting there passive and listening. Adults (and kids too!) learn in a wide variety of ways. By listening, visual, tactile, whole body learning, emotional learning….Facilitation means your audience is actively involved in their learning.
After today’s workshop is over, I will copy/paste your ideas here so you can come back and revisit them, if needed.
